Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
