Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to avoid talking about secret information in any cars.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He said that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any kind of car, due to the growing threats of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The wider security environment underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in all aspects of government activities, from transport usage to communication habits.
