An individual who laced candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.
She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
