The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
