The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Follows Poor Response

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a more defined vision.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire content from the president's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to mind and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee currently serves in the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or go big, gamble everything, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can anticipate more updates as production progresses.
