TikTok Provides Users Power to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to lessen the volume of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company announced that it now features more than 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is being tested over the next few weeks before a global release. This development coincides with a surge in AI-generated material, spurred by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Recent reports that approximately one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding video streams on a popular video site exclusively feature content made by AI. A significant portion of this material is considered mass-produced AI material, a label for substandard, factory-style content that is typically nonsensical or surreal.

Our research shows that many people appreciate content made with AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to educational videos, and we want to offer the community the ability to see more or less of that, based on their own likes,” said a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

The service shared that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its service identified as made with AI. Overall, in excess of 100 million media items are submitted to the service every day, making clips made by AI a limited percentage of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Viewers will be capable of reduce or increase the volume of artificial media they watch by accessing the content preference setting in the application and selecting AI-made media. Other topics that can already be modified under the setting encompass news, clothing, cosmetics, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s policies oblige creators to identify “realistic” artificially created content, and it bans harmful AI impersonations of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be deleted under its terms of service.

In addition, the service will now apply an “AI-made” watermark to content made using its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for identifying artificial media. This action is designed to help prevent users from seeking to circumvent the labeling process.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is furthermore introducing a $2m AI literacy fund for professionals and organizations to develop informative material about using AI responsibly. This initiative will assist charitable organizations dedicated to educating computer science.

Platform Protection

The video-sharing app has justified its moderation strategy, following controversy over proposals to make redundant hundreds of content moderators in the United Kingdom. TikTok is expected to eliminate hundreds of positions in its trust and safety department in its British office, with trade unions and internet security professionals voicing alarm that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead clarified that human moderation would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content before it has to be seen by people. The platform reported a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content handled by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to reliance on its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to balance staff and AI to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we further consider it’s very important to reduce exposure to harmful content as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is making a difference operate efficiently.”
